Staycation Ideas with DoCo Vacation Rentals
Curated Inspirations for the Modern Traveler
Just like you’d plan for your vacation, you can plan ahead for an awesome staycation experience with us too!
Holidays-If you’re spending the holidays with us, there are endless ways to bring comfort and joy to your vacation rental, but to name a few;
1). Drinks!-All of the best holidays start with drinks, and if you don’t drink, enjoy a mocktail or snack of your very own creation to help spark the holiday mood. Use any of the many glasses, dishes and utensils that we provide for you in your rental. Let Pinterest be your guide as you become your own favorite bartender.
2). Feast!– Enjoy one of the many fine dining, or casual grub establishments that Door County has to offer. Splurge on the finest with the likes of The Wickman House in Ellison Bay, Trixie’s in Ephraim, Whistling Swan in Fish Creek, Fireside in Egg Harbor or the New Glacier Ledge also in Egg Harbor just to name a few of our favorites! Most feature special menus that you can pick up to-go or curbside to keep the sleigh bells ringing.
For the Outdoor Lover
1). Explore! One of DoCo’s claims to fame is absolutely all of the beautiful state parks, land trusts, cross country skiing and hiking trails. Enjoy the fresh, crisp air and take a breath like never before. Visit Destination Door County for a comprehensive list of your next outdoor adventure.
2). Roast! If you are lucky enough to have a fire pit outside of your rental, dig up the fun tradition of roasting marshmallows or weenies over the fire! You’re sure to recall all of sorts of fun memories with this nostalgic activity.
3). Snow Angels! Weather permitting, channel your inner child and experience the rush of another nostalgic tradition.
For the Foodie
1). Wine and Cheese Board- Check out Door County Creamery for the absolute best selection of cheese and other charcuterie staples. Curate your own or pick one up from Glacier Ledge (Egg Harbor) or Whistling Swan (Fish Creek).
2). Learn Bread Baking– A number of our rentals are equipped with ovens-how satisfying to bake your own! I can smell it now..
3). Online Cooking Class- Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura has launched a free Instagram series called “Kitchen Quarantine”. Time to step up your game with these free classes. Or if there’s something, in particular, you want to learn, YouTube will have it.
4). Eat Dessert-not just after dinner, anytime. Pink Bakery (Egg Harbor) or Sunflour Artisan Bakery (Sturgeon Bay) is sure to have something for everyone.
For the Richard Simmons
1). Online exercise class or yoga video-It’s no secret that exercise releases feel good endorphins. If you feel up to it, POPSUGAR Fitness has some of my favorite videos and classes that you can take with you anywhere-no equipment? No problem! Your rental may have a smart TV that accesses YouTube right from your remote!
2). Dance Party- Quiet Hours appreciated, bust out your best moves at a respectable volume to burn off some steam-and do record and share! Tag @docorentals and #mydocovacation #docovacationrentals
3). Get Outdoors- see the options above or do a quick google search to find exactly what kind of activity strikes your fancy.
For the Social Butterfly
1). Phone a friend-It’s so easy to just resort to scrolling for hours on your phone, but c’mon you’re on vacation man! Break out of the habit, and give a call or facetime someone you care about.
2). Have a virtual party-Use your trusty WebEx or Zoom not for your daily dose of hair pulling, but to have a party with all of your favorite people. Let the chaos compense and even download Kahoot! On Google Play or the App Store to set up Virtual Trivia. Trust us it’s a ton of fun.
3). Honeymoon-Use this dedicated time to reconnect with your partner. Dress up and stay in and rekindle, or snuggle up in bed!
For the Creative
1). Write that dang book!-Door County is the perfect writers paradise. Let it’s winder seclusion and summer enchantment inspire your latest respects.
2). Draw or Paint- Go plein air or find a class online for inspirations and guidance. Let Artist Guild (Sturgeon Bay) supply you with all of your artistic tools of the trade.
3). Start a journal practice-write about your day, or how that sly comment made you feel. Check out the Journal Speak practice by Nicole Sachs for a real deep dive and put the pen to paper.
For Those Who Need a Minute
1). Sleep in or Nap- dedicate some time to added rest. Pencil it in if you need to schedule some time to catch up on a good night sleep or power up.
2). Detox from Social Media-It could do us all some good, but when you get home, be sure to share your relaxing stay with us on Facebook or Instagram @docorentals and with #mydocovacation or #docovacationrentals 😉
3). Play Games! Check out some of the awesome and interactive board or card games that many of our rentals come stocked with. What better way to push the pause button than with some laughs or serious brain stimulation.
4). Read- I know you brought one with you in your bag- “Maybe this time..”. If the one you brought isn’t doing it for you, check out a few of the selections we’ve provided for you in the rental.
5). Ommm..Meditate- It’s easier than it seems. Check out Youtube or Headspace for some awesome guided meditations that will really get you zen.
6). Dolce far Niente- “The sweet art of doing nothing”.
